The Foundations of Change – Capricorn New Moon January 12-13, 2021

Welcome to the future.

This is the first New Moon of 2021, and it feels like we have crossed a threshold.

As much as 2020 was characterized by heaviness, limitations, confrontations with mortality, and difficult choices, 2021 will be characterized by disruption, problem solving, rebellion, and breakthrough.

As we saw last Wednesday, that disruption and rebellion does not always serve a vision for the future. Sometimes it serves a delusion, or a need to cling to what is inevitably dying away.

Some of those old realities that are becoming less and less tenable as a way of operating are the dysfunctional realities we support through our silence, complicity, and willingness to keep ourselves down. For example, patriarchy. For example, white supremacy.

We can see these are becoming less tenable through the Me Too movement, and through the increase in diversity in our government and elected officials.

During this Moon cycle of 2021, we will inaugurate not only our first woman Vice President, but our first African American and Indian American Vice President.

(Incidentally, the year Pluto went into Capricorn was the year we elected our first African American President, Barack Obama, in 2008.)

The world is changing, ultimately in a good way. In this process, the darkness must come to light. There may be more darkness for us to uncover, and revolutionary energy can embolden the old ways of being as well as the new.

But when it comes to the bigger picture of change, there is no going back.

Around this Capricorn New Moon, ask yourself what you are doing today, this month, this year, to participate in shaping the new reality that is being formed.

What do you want it to look like? What is your role in ushering in new ways of being? How can your story and your journey help others who may not be as far along as you?

This New Moon is a choice point, not only for those in the spotlight, but for each of us. It is time to decide who you are, how you will hold yourself (will you hold yourself in respect or deprecation? love or hatred? acceptance or denial?), and how to honor your truth.

This New Moon brings an opportunity to lay the foundation of the new reality you will come to rest upon.
